The COVID-19 pandemic first affected Lebanon on February 21st, 2020, and one month later it reached Bcharri, a small remote town in northern Lebanon. When similar rural areas with under-equipped facilities and financial limitations are affected, outcomes could be catastrophic, raising the need for meticulous preparation and rapid response. In our study, we describe the different measures taken to prepare this town for the COVID-19 outbreak, as well as our rapid response after the first case was confirmed.

Introduction: Circulation of poliovirus in neighboring countries and mass population movement places Lebanon at risk of polio and other vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks. Determining population immunity levels is essential for guiding program planning and implementation of targeted supplementary immunization activities (SIAs) in governorates and subpopulations with low seroprevalence.

Background: Following the Syrian crisis, a substantial influx of Syrian refugees into Lebanon posed new challenges to optimal vaccination coverage for all children residing in the country. In 2016, the district-based immunization coverage evaluation survey (CES) assessed routine immunization coverage at the district level in Lebanon among children aged 12-59 months.

Methods: A cross-sectional multistage cluster survey was conducted in all of Lebanon (with the exception of the Nabatieh district) using the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) methodology adapted to the local context.

Monozygotic twins with glutathione synthetase deficiency, progressive retinal dystrophy and cystoid macular edema were followed for foveal changes on optical coherence tomography under different treatment modalities. The purpose of the study is to show the effect of topical dorzolamide in conjunction with systemic acetazolamide in terms of decreasing macular edema in this specific disease. The results showed that systemic acetazolamide alone or in combination with topical dorzolamide decreased CME in both patients for a certain period of time.
