Ultrasound Diagnosis of Clinically Unsuspected Ureteral Stone Presenting as Acute Scrotum: Case Series.

Ureteral colic is not generally included in the differential diagnoses of acute scrotal pain, although ureteral pathology is a recognized cause of pain referred to the scrotum. We report 3 patients presenting with acute scrotal pain who had normal scrotal color Doppler ultrasound scans; subsequent ultrasound of the ipsilateral kidney revealed hydronephrosis, which ultimately led to the clinically unsuspected diagnosis of ureteral colic. We conclude that ureteral colic should be included in the differential diagnosis of acute scrotal pain, and we further suggest that a survey ultrasound of the kidney on the side of the pain should be performed in patients presenting with acute scrotal pain and a normal color Doppler ultrasound examination of the scrotum.

Inversion of the grayscale display to facilitate viewing of computed tomographic scans by sonographers.

Most sonographers have considerable difficulty interpreting computed tomographic (CT) scans, which often must be correlated with sonographic findings. Inversion of the grayscale CT display is a simple maneuver to facilitate viewing of CT scans by sonographers.

The ischemic preconditioning paradox in deceased donor liver transplantation-evidence from a prospective randomized single blind clinical trial.

While animal studies show that ischemic preconditioning (IPC) is beneficial in liver transplantation (LT), evidence from few smaller clinical trials is conflicting. From October 2003 to July 2006, 101 deceased donors (DD) were randomized to 10 min IPC (n = 50) or No IPC (n = 51). Primary objective was efficacy of IPC to decrease reperfusion (RP) injury.

B-flow imaging of the hepatic vasculature: correlation with color Doppler sonography.

Objective: B-flow imaging is a non-Doppler technology that provides real-time imaging of blood flow during gray-scale sonography. The utility of B-flow imaging is reflected in numerous publications that describe normal and pathologic findings in the carotid arteries and hemodialysis fistulas. However, there is a paucity of articles describing B-flow imaging of the abdominopelvic viscera.
