Background: Clients in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) are required to complete education modules quarterly to maintain eligibility. The purposes of this project were to: (1) create a whooping cough vaccination education module for WIC clients; (2) evaluate baseline perceptions of WIC clients on the whooping cough vaccine and disease; and (3) evaluate whooping cough knowledge following completion of the module.
Problem: A decline in vaccination rates among infants and children using WIC services was reported by a local WIC program director who requested whooping cough vaccination education materials.
Probucol is an antihyperlipidemic agent with antioxidant effects and antiatherosclerotic properties in hypercholesterolemic conditions. The JCR:LA-corpulent strain of rats exhibits all aspects of the human 'metabolic syndrome' characterized by obesity, insulin resistance, hypertriglyceridemia, atherogenesis, and ischemic myocardial damage. Male rats were treated with 100 mg/kg body weight probucol from 6 to 12 weeks or from 6 to 39 weeks of age.

The JCR:LA-cp rat is a unique strain that, if homozygous for the autosomal recessive cp gene, is obese and exhibits the metabolic syndrome of insulin resistance, hyperinsulinemia, and hypertriglyceridemia. Obese male rats spontaneously develop advanced atherosclerosis and ischemic myocardial lesions. The angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, captopril, was administered to obese rats at 30 mg/kg body weight from 6 to 39 weeks of age.

Patients And Methods: The PAVE regimen consisted of cisplatin 30 mg/m2 intravenously (i.v.
Obese male rats of the JCR:LA-cp strain are insulin resistant, normoglycaemic, hypertriglyceridaemic, and atherosclerosis-prone. Such rats were treated from 6 to 39 weeks of age with 5 mg x kg(-1) x day(-1) of D-fenfluramine. The treatment normalised food intake, after 20 weeks of age, to that of lean control animals.
