Article Synopsis
  • - The study evaluates the impact of biosimilar drug availability on the access to biologic therapies for immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) in 15 Spanish hospitals.
  • - Out of 267 patients, 58.4% received biosimilars, which had a faster average availability (11.8 months) compared to originator drugs (20.0 months).
  • - The use of biosimilars has led to improved access to biologic therapies, reducing the time to treatment by 1.6 years compared to original biologics.

Background: Supplemental oxygen delivered with standard oxygen therapy (SOT) improves exercise capacity in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Although high-flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy (HFNC) improves oxygenation in other respiratory diseases, its impact on exercise performance has never been evaluated in IPF patients. We hypothesized that HFNC may improve exercise capacity in IPF subjects compared to SOT.

Desensitisation protocols allow the continuation of treatment in patients who have presented hypersensitivity reactions. Carboplatin desensitisation solutions are usually prepared in the chemotherapy centralised units of hospital pharmacies and they are diluted under the established concentration limit to guarantee the stability of the preparation. An online survey was sent to hospital pharmacies, inquiring about local desensitisation protocols: reasons for use of desensitisation protocols, the protocols used and the stability given to carboplatin solutions.

Carboplatin hypersensitivity reactions are one of the major clinical challenges in treating patients with relapse/recurrent ovarian malignancies. Desensitization protocols allow the continuation of treatment in patients who have presented hypersensitivity reactions by gradually re-introducing small amounts of the drug up to full therapeutic doses. Carboplatin desensitization protocol is based on three solutions that are usually prepared in the chemotherapy centralized units of hospital pharmacies.

Objectives: Daptomycin is a cyclic lipopeptide with selective action against drug-resistant Gram-positive bacteria. The stability of daptomycin solutions in different containers while stored at different temperatures was assessed.

Methods: Daptomycin vials were reconstituted with NaCl (50 mg/mL).
