Evaluation of the discriminative power of lipidophoresis by discriminant analysis using a simple quantitative method of agarose lipidophoresis.

A simple, reproducible and quantitative method for separation of lipoproteins in agarose is presented. The validity of the results is shown by comparison with gravimetric analysis of fractions separated by ultracentrifugation in a discontinuous NaCl-KBr gradient. Results for a large group of normals and of patients with various lipid disorders are presented, and discriminant analysis is used to evaluate objectively the potential of lipidophoresis in the classification of hyperlipoproteinemias.
