Carbon footprint and life cycle economic costs of pilot Know-as-you-Throw schemes in Italy and Spain.

Considerable resources are spent globally on actions to improve the separate collection of municipal waste aiming to minimise the environmental and economic impacts of municipal waste management. One of such actions are know-as-you-throw (KAYT) schemes, which aim to change the behaviour of waste generators through tailored communication of information. KAYT schemes offer a relatively uncontroversial and simple tool, yet their environmental and economic performance remains unknown due to their limited implementation.

Transient myeloproliferative disorder with a CD7+ and CD56+ myeloid/natural killer cell precursor phenotype in a newborn.

Anewborn with a transient myeloproliferative disorder and a myeloid/natural killer cell leukemia phenotype is described. The blasts expressed CD7, CD33, CD34, CD56, and CD117 but did not react with cytoplasmic myeloperoxidase and were negative for cy CD22, HLA-DR, and CD90 expression. No megakaryoblastic surface markers were identified.

Bispectral index and anaesthesia in the elderly.

Background: Due to pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic reasons, the elderly are at particular risk of incurring unwanted side effects of drugs commonly used in anaesthesia. The bispectral index (BIS) is an EEG-derived value that measures the sedative component of the anaesthetic state. The BIS could be useful in guiding titration of anaesthetic drugs in the elderly.
