Fer governs mTORC1 regulating pathways and sustains viability of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma cells.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the deadliest cancers with a high percentage of morbidity. The deciphering and identification of novel targets and tools for intervening with its adverse progression are therefore of immense importance. To address this goal we adopted a specific inhibitor of the intracellular tyrosine kinase Fer, whose expression level is upregulated in PDAC tumors, and is associated with poor prognosis of patients.

Pediatric practice experiences with second dose influenza vaccination: An AAP Pediatric Research in Office Settings (PROS) Study.

Objectives: Explore pediatric staff experiences administering the second influenza vaccine dose.

Study Design: Qualitative focus groups/interviews.

Methods: As part of the National Institutes of Health-funded Flu2Text randomized control trial of text message reminders for second influenza vaccine dose, we conducted seven focus groups and four individual interviews (n = 39 participants total) with clinicians and staff from participating practices from the American Academy of Pediatrics' Pediatric Research in Office Settings (PROS) Network.

Machine Learning in Electronic Health Records: Identifying High-Risk Obstetric Patients Pre and During Labor.

Our goal is to apply artificial intelligence (AI) and statistical analysis to understand the relationship between various factors and outcomes during pregnancy and labor and delivery, in order to personalize birth management and reduce complications for both mothers and newborns. We use a structured electronic health records database with data from approximately 130,000 births to train, test and validate our models. We apply machine learning (ML) methods to predict various obstetrical outcomes before and during labor, with the aim of improving patient care management in the delivery ward.

Structural and mechanistic insights into the function of Leishmania ribosome lacking a single pseudouridine modification.

Leishmania is the causative agent of cutaneous and visceral diseases affecting millions of individuals worldwide. Pseudouridine (Ψ), the most abundant modification on rRNA, changes during the parasite life cycle. Alterations in the level of a specific Ψ in helix 69 (H69) affected ribosome function.
