Non-invasive expandable prosthesis in musculoskeletal oncology paediatric patients for the distal and proximal femur. First results.

Purpose: The non-invasive expandable prosthesis for skeletally immature patients is used after limb salvage surgery following tumor resection. The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of this treatment.

Methods: Seven paediatric patients with femoral tumors had resection and limb salvage with an uncemented non-invasive growing prosthesis.

Clinical Evolution After Enzyme Replacement Therapy in Twins with the Severe Form of Maroteaux-Lamy Syndrome.

Mucopolysaccharidosis type VI (MPS VI) is a progressive, autosomal, recessive lysosomal disorder. This disorder, due to a deficiency in N-acetylgalactosamine-4-sulfatase (ASB), results in an accumulation of glycosaminoglycan (GAG), causing multiple organ failures. In this study, monochorionic biamniotic twins with the severe form of MPS VI underwent enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) with weekly infusions of recombinant human ASB (galsulfase) at 1 mg/kg.

Osteochondritis of the femoral condyles in children and adolescents: our experience over the last 28 years.

A study of 67 cases was carried out amongst children and adolescents suffering from osteochondritis of the femoral condyle (with open or closed knee physis). All attended our orthopaedic and traumatology centre over a 28-year period (1973-2001). A total of 67 patients have been treated.

[Septic arthritis in children].

A review was made of 15 cases of septic arthritis in children. 13 of these cases corresponded to purulent arthritis, one to tuberculous arthritis and one to brucellar arthritis. All of them received diagnostic punction.
