Background: The detection of genetic sequences represents the gold standard procedure for species discrimination, genetic characterisation of tumours, and identification of pathogens. The development of new molecular detection methods, accessible and cost effective, is of great relevance. Biosensors based on plasmonic nanoparticles, such as gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), provide a powerful and versatile platform for highly sensitive, economic, user-friendly and label-free sensing.

Methods: A 3-arm, double-blind, randomized, proof-of-concept human laboratory study embedded in a 5-week multisite clinical trial tested 200 mg and 600 mg daily doses of ANS-6637 compared to placebo in treatment-seeking adults with AUD. After 1 week of medication, participants completed an alcohol cue reactivity session.
The Diffusion of Innovations (DOI) model can be used to explore how faculty prioritize learning about and adopting new pedagogical approaches. Here, we use the DOI framework to contextualize biology faculty perceptions of a professional development (PD) program designed to help them create a full semester course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE) class at a large, public comprehensive university. PD sessions included exploring self-reflexive identity while fostering inclusive classroom spaces through understanding and interrupting implicit bias and microaggressions.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFDrug resistance is a major challenge in cancer therapy, and the expression of efflux pumps such as P-glycoprotein (P-gp, ABCB1) often correlates with poor prognosis in various tumors, including glioblastoma (GB). Considering that different roles for these proteins have been established in the biology of various tumors, this study aimed to investigate the functions of P-gp in GB-derived cells by evaluating its survival, migratory, and apoptosis-regulating capabilities, as well as its potential as a liquid biopsy biomarker. P-gp expression was diminished via siRNA to determine its exact role in GB biology.
