Unlabelled: The aim of this study was to identify parameters influencing DNA extraction and PCR amplification efficiencies in an attempt to standardize Mucorales qPCR. The Fungal PCR Initiative Mucorales Laboratory Working Group distributed two panels of simulated samples to 26 laboratories: Panel A (six sera spiked with Mucorales DNA and one negative control serum) and Panel B (six Mucorales DNA extracts). Panel A underwent DNA extraction in each laboratory according to the local procedure and were sent to a central laboratory for testing using three different qPCR techniques: one in-house qPCR assay and two commercial assays (MucorGenius and Fungiplex).

Background: Hypertension is a key risk factor for death and disability, and blood pressure reduction is associated with significant reductions in cardiovascular risk. Large trials have shown that interventions including self-monitoring of blood pressure can reduce blood pressure but real-world data from wider implementation are lacking.

Aim: The self-monitoring and management service evaluation in primary care (SHIP) study will evaluate a novel digital intervention for hypertension management and medication titration platform ("Hypertension-Plus") that is currently undergoing initial implementation into primary care in several parts of the UK.

Objective: The control of energy balance involves neural circuits in the central nervous system, including AGRP neurons in the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus (ARC). AGRP neurons are crucial for energy balance and their increased activity during fasting is critical to promote feeding behavior. The activity of these neurons is influenced by multiple signals including those acting on G-protein coupled receptors (GPCR) activating different intracellular signaling pathways.

Article Synopsis
  • Federated networks enhance data privacy by allowing analysis without transferring sensitive data, supporting trustworthy data analysis in healthcare research.
  • The International COVID-19 Data Alliance (ICODA) tested a federated network with partners to analyze data from the International Perinatal Outcome in the Pandemic (iPOP) Study, facing both challenges and benefits in the process.
  • Establishing these networks requires significant investment and planning for technology and governance, which can lead to powerful collaborative research opportunities using health data from various countries.

Humans' sense of the passage of time is subjective and determined by psychophysiological responses to the environment. The passing of time has been perceived to significantly slow in stressful situations, such as accidents or virtual threats. The current study will explore distortions in the perception of passage of time when threat is simulated using virtual reality (VR).
