Shorebird populations are declining across the world due to factors such as habitat loss and climate change. Identification of shorebird migration routes and important stopover sites can facilitate the implementation of strategic and effective conservation measures. Using a satellite transmitter, we successfully tracked the migration of one Grey Plover () from its wintering grounds in Singapore north along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway (EAAF) to its breeding grounds located east of the Taymyr Peninsula in north-central Siberia.

Mechanical metamaterials exhibit several unusual mechanical properties, such as a negative Poisson's ratio, which impart additional capabilities to materials. Recently, hydrogels have emerged as exceptional candidates for fabricating mechanical metamaterials that offer enhanced functionality and expanded applications due to their unique responsive characteristics. However, the adaptability of these metamaterials remains constrained and underutilized, as they lack integration of the hydrogels' soft and responsive characteristics with the metamaterial design.

Zoonotic malaria presents a major public health challenge in Southeast Asia. Plasmodium cynomolgi coinfects the same macaque hosts and mosquito vectors as the most common cause of zoonotic malaria, Plasmodium knowlesi. Plasmodium cynomolgi appears morphologically similar to Plasmodium vivax on microscopy and can amplify P.

Article Synopsis
  • Structural variants (SVs) play a crucial role in genetic differences that relate to traits and diseases, but most research has focused on European populations.
  • This study compiles a catalogue of over 73,000 SVs from a diverse group of 8,392 Singaporeans, revealing that about 65% of these SVs are novel and specific to Asian ancestry groups.
  • The findings help identify clinically relevant SVs and improve genetic research by addressing biases related to ancestry, which is important for equity and diversity in the field.
