Synthesis of hydroxytyrosol analogs with enhanced antioxidant and cytostatic properties against MG-63 human osteoblast-like cells and their potential implications for bone health.

Sixteen novel hydroxytyrosol (HT) analogs with substitutions at the C-1 position of the HT aliphatic side chain were synthesized and evaluated for their cytostatic activity against MG-63 human osteoblast-like cells and for their antioxidant properties. The results revealed that these analogs exhibited significantly higher inhibitory activity compared with HT, which served as the positive control. Among these, the cyclo-substituted compounds stood out as particularly potent, demonstrating strong radical scavenging abilities and notable cytostatic effects against MG-63 cells.

Evaluation of Five Screening Tools in Detecting Physical Frailty in Cirrhosis and Their Prognostic Role.

: Physical frailty (PF) is a syndrome of decreased physical function and reserves, preventing patients from coping with stressful events. PF screening tools in patients with liver cirrhosis (LC) can help evaluate the risk of complications and death. The aim of this study was to assess the performance of five screening tools in detecting PF and their ability to predict 18-month mortality in LC.

Beta-adrenergic stimulation promotes an endoplasmic reticulum stress-dependent inflammatory program in salivary gland epithelial cells.

The effect of beta-adrenergic stimulation on human labial minor salivary gland epithelial cells (LMSGEC) on IL-6 production and its dependency on endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress were investigated. Primary LMSGEC from Sjögren's syndrome (SS) patients and controls in culture were stimulated with epinephrine and IL-6 expression was evaluated by qPCR and ELISA. The expression of β-ARs in cultured LMSGEC was tested by qPCR, while adrenoceptors and cAMP levels were examined in LMSGs by immunofluorescence.
