Indoor air dynamics and quality in high density residential buildings can be complex as it is affected by both building parameters, pollution sources, and outdoor meteorological conditions. The present study used CONTAM simulations to investigate the intra-building transport and concentration of an inert pollutant continuously emitted from an underground garage of a 15-floor building under moderate Mediterranean weather. The effects of outdoor meteorological conditions (air temperature, wind speed and direction) on indoor distribution of the emitted pollutant was tested under constant conditions.

Article Synopsis
  • - Meiosis involves complex regulation because it requires breaking and repairing DNA, influenced by post-translational modifications that affect various meiotic processes.
  • - The study focuses on the role of the SUMO pathway in the germline, revealing that proteins UBC-9 and SUMO-1 are crucial during a specific phase of meiosis and that mutations in these proteins led to increased recombination and defects in oocyte formation.
  • - The researchers found that UBC-9 interacts with the DNA repair protein MRE-11, and that defects in MRE-11 mutations resulted in similar phenotypes, suggesting that the SUMOylation pathway works alongside MRE-11 to maintain germline integrity during meiosis.

Article Synopsis
  • * Key processes in prophase I include crossover formation and sister chromatid cohesion, which link homologous chromosomes and are essential for accurate chromosome segregation.
  • * Errors in these processes can lead to missegregation of chromosomes, with increased risk as maternal age rises, potentially contributing to higher rates of aneuploidy in older oocytes.
