Identification of a localization wire tip in an occult breast lesion using a handheld magnetometer.

Background: The Sentimag hand-held probe detects the magnetic response from iron oxide particles trapped in a sentinel node.

Objectives: To investigate if an electromagnetic probe can be helpful in the identification of a hook wire tip located in an occult breast lesion.

Material And Methods: Forty-two patients undergoing lumpectomy without axillary procedure were enrolled.

CD46 Expression is an unfavorable prognostic factor in breast cancer cases.

The membrane cofactor protein, CD46 represents a complement inhibitor, which protects autologous cells from complement-mediated cytotoxicity. On tumor cells, CD46 may exhibit the potential to protect them from immune responses of the host. The present study aimed at evaluation of prognostic significance of CD46 expression in breast cancers.

[Occupational exposure to inhalation anaesthetics in operating rooms in Poland. A survey].

Background: The occupational exposure to inhalation anaesthetics in operating rooms, and its effect on hospital staff, have been widely discussed. The first national survey, published in Poland several years ago, revealed worrying levels of contamination, especially in hospitals with poorly equipped operating rooms. The purpose of this recent survey was to assess contamination of the operating room air under various conditions.

Correlation between metallothionein (MT) expression and selected prognostic factors in ductal breast cancers.

Our study aimed at examining significance of metallothionein (MT) expression in ductal breast cancers by determination of a relationship between expression of MT protein (MT-1/2) and selected prognostic factors, including grade of histological differentiation (G), expression of Ki-67 proliferative antigen, expression of estrogen receptors (ER) and progesterone receptors (PgR) and expression of HER-2 receptor. Material for the studies involved 54 samples of invasive ductal breast cancer, manifesting malignancy grades of G1-G3. In paraffin sections of examined tumours immunohistochemical reactions were performed using specific antibodies directed to MT, Ki-67, ER, PgR or HER-2.

[The doctor-patient relationship in intensive therapy].

The doctor-patient and doctor-patient's family relationships require skills of interpersonal communication, which is particularly important in intensive therapy. Unfortunately, such skills are not routinely taught and inadequacies are enormous. Communication skills are essential for decision-making and outcomes of therapy.
