Circular Economy Insights on the Suitability of New Tri-Layer Compostable Packaging Films after Degradation in Storage Conditions.

The environmental degradation of the films used in packaging is a key factor in their commercial use. Industrial and academic research is aimed at obtaining materials that have degradation features that ensure their eco-sustainability but, at the same time, preserve their use properties during storage and distribution periods. This study analyzes the degradability behavior over time of commercial packaging that meets the requirements of the UNE 13432 standard and the prEN 17427 (2020) home composting certification requirements under standard storage conditions.

A novel de novo variant in CASK causes a severe neurodevelopmental disorder that masks the phenotype of a novel de novo variant in EEF2.

We report a 9-year-old Spanish boy with severe psychomotor developmental delay, short stature, microcephaly and abnormalities of the brain morphology, including cerebellar atrophy. Whole-exome sequencing (WES) uncovered two novel de novo variants, a hemizygous variant in CASK (Calcium/Calmodulin Dependent Serine Protein Kinase) and a heterozygous variant in EEF2 (Eukaryotic Translation Elongation Factor 2). CASK gene encodes the peripheral plasma membrane protein CASK that is a scaffold protein located at the synapses in the brain.

Bupropion, a possible antidepressant without negative effects on alcohol relapse.

Rationale: the role that antidepressants play on alcohol consumption is not well understood. Previous studies have reported that treatment with a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRIs) increases alcohol consumption in an animal model of relapse, however it is unknown whether this effect holds for other antidepressants such as the atypical dopamine/norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNDRI).

Objectives: the main goal of the present study was to compare the effects of two classes of antidepressants drugs, bupropion (SNDRI) and fluoxetine (SSRI), on alcohol consumption during relapse.
