The 2009 pandemic of novel swine-origin influenza A (H1N1) highlighted the importance of community mitigation measures such as voluntary isolation. During the pandemic, we investigated the voluntary isolation behavior of patients with influenza during the 7-day period after they visited an outpatient clinic at a hospital in Tokyo, Japan. A questionnaire-based survey was conducted on patients diagnosed with influenza.

Palladium(0)-catalyzed cross-coupling of planar chiral arene chromium complex 12 with naphthylboronic acid 9 gave syn-biaryl coupling product 13. syn-Biaryl chromium complex 13 was heated in 1:1 mixture of di-n-butyl ether and 1,2-dichloroethane to give a face-inverted anti-biaryl chromium complex 14 without axial isomerization.

Folic acid has been used in the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhoea in the tropics. Using a rat model, we evaluated the protective effect of large doses of folic acid on diarrhoea, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth and translocation of enteric bacteria into mesenteric lymph nodes induced by a raw red kidney bean-based diet containing lectin (phytohemagglutinin).
