Cease Fire Tampa Bay is a multifaceted, broad-based community effort working to increase awareness of firearm injuries and provide an opportunity for the people of the southwest-central Florida region to eliminate unwanted firearms. Three approaches to develop this program were implemented; a six-county gun buy-back program, firearm safety education for school-aged children and community education programs. The program has been successful in removing 6,981 unwanted guns from the streets, and has reached thousands of children and families in the region.

Many thyroid carcinomas seem to be dependent upon the thyroid growth-promoting properties of the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). The purpose of the present investigation was to compare the in vitro effect of TSH on tissue cultures derived from malignant and benign thyroid tumors. The results indicate that TSH can affect the morphology and protein synthesis of primary tissue cultures derived from benign and malignant thyroid tumors differently.

In selected cases of Hereditary Haemorrhagic Telangiectesia with severe, life-threatening epistaxis, a new surgical procedure has been performed. It consists of a thorough, near total excision of the diseased nasal mucosa and its replacement by an amniotic memebrane graft. The surgical details dealing with preparation of the amniotic graft are described.
