Hemorrhaging associated with endosseous implant placement in the anterior mandible: a review of the literature.

The placement of endosseous dental implants is largely considered a safe surgical procedure. However, upper airway obstruction secondary to severe bleeding in the floor of the mouth has been occasionally reported as a rare but potentially fatal complication of implant surgery. This review presents critical hemorrhagic episodes, related to dental implantation in the anterior segments of the mandible, published to date.

Maxillary sinus floor elevation using a combination of DFDBA and bovine-derived porous hydroxyapatite: a preliminary histologic and histomorphometric report.

The objective of the study was to determine the osteoconductive potential of bovine-derived porous hydroxyapatite (HA) in combination with demineralized freeze-dried bone allograft (DFDBA) as an alternative to autogenous grafting in the maxillary sinus. The study involved 5 patients treated with 2-stage sinus elevation procedures using a combination of DFDBA and Osteograf/N 300 and 700. The healing time before implant placement ranged from 6 to 13 months.

Histomorphometric evaluation of extraction sockets and deficient alveolar ridges treated with allograft and barrier membrane: a pilot study.

The aim of the study was to determine the fate of demineralized freeze-dried bone allograft (DFDBA) used in conjunction with a barrier membrane in the management of extraction sockets and deficient alveolar ridges, and to compare the amount of bone formed with that found in untreated sites. Ten biopsies were obtained from 8 grafted patients. Five biopsies were harvested from untreated sites during routine implant placement and analyzed for comparison.
