Validation and Feasibility of the Postnatal Growth and Retinopathy of Prematurity Retinal Screening Criteria at a Level IV Tertiary Care Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Objective: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is detected in preterm infants by standardized screening programs, but in general, they have poor sensitivity. The Postnatal Growth and Retinopathy of Prematurity (G-ROP) algorithm uses weight gain to predict ROP superior reported sensitivity. Our objectives are to (1) independently validate the sensitivity of G-ROP criteria for the detection of ROP in infants born at >28 weeks' gestation in a tertiary care unit in the United States and (2) to calculate the cost savings associated with a potential reduction in examinations.

(fall armyworm, FAW) is one of the most devastating insect pests to corn and soybean production in the Americas and is rapidly expanding its range worldwide. It is known to be hard to control either by chemical insecticide applications or by GM. Although the use of GM traits can be an effective way to control this pest, it is very rare to find native insecticidal proteins that provide the necessary level of FAW control in crop fields where FAW pressure and damage are high.

Impact of food and herbal medication on calcineurin inhibitor dose in renal transplant patients: a cross-sectional study.

The incidence and severity of interactions of herbal products with calcineurin inhibitor (CNI) metabolism in renal transplant recipients have not been systematically investigated. These patients have a high rate of herbal product consumption, including products interfering with CNI metabolism. The study aimed at identifying an impact of herbs and foods on CNI metabolism in a cohort of renal transplant recipients by conducting dietary interviews (1) in patients with very low and high CNI maintenance dose requirements and (2) by retrospective analysis of unexplained marked deviations from CNI baseline trough levels.

Background: Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is frequently used in the general population, yet scant data are available regarding the prevalence of these medications in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD).

Objective: To survey patients with ESRD regarding their use of CAM and health foods.

Methods: Consecutive patients treated with dialysis or renal transplantation for ESRD were approached by nephrologists of 5 renal centers to report their usage of and knowledge on CAM and health foods by answering a questionnaire.
