Background: Endotracheal insertion of a double-lumen tube (DLT) may be difficult because of its size and shape. The Airtraq™ is a new videolaryngoscope that allows supraglottis exposure without needing to align the oro-pharyngo-laryngeal axis. A specific model (Airtraq DL™), with a large diameter, has been specifically designed to insert a DLT.

Aim: Human Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) is a prenatal disorder of T lymphocyte development that depends on the expression of numerous genes. Juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia (JMML), previously known as juvenile chronic myeloid leukemia (JCML), is a rare, myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative disease typically presenting in early childhood.

Case Reports: Two cases are described of immunodeficiency disorders, both treated with chemotherapeutic drugs (Busulfan plus cyclophosphamide) before bone marrow transplantation.

Background: Neuro-ventilatory efficiency (NVE), defined as the tidal volume to electrical diaphragm-activity ratio (VT/EAdi) at the beginning and end of the weaning process after acute hypoxaemic respiratory failure, may provide valuable information about patient recovery.

Methods: This observational study included 12 patients breathing with neurally adjusted ventilatory assist (NAVA). When a spontaneous breathing trial (SBT) with pressure support of 7 cm H2O and PEEP was unsuccessful, NAVA was used and the level was adjusted to obtain an EAdi of ∼60% of maximal EAdi during SBT.

It has been suggested that stem/progenitor cells exist in dental tissue. This study identified adult mesenchymal stem/stromal cell-like populations in the dental follicle of human impacted third molars. The immunohistochemical analysis, of dental follicle using known stem-cell markers: Cytokeratins (AE1-AE3), Smooth Muscle Actin, Ki-67, CD34, CD44, CD45, CD56, and CD133.

Background: Human papillomavirus DNA (HPV DNA) and p16 and p53 protein expressions were investigated for their role in transforming dysplasia into squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity in a non-smoker and non-drinker patient group.

Materials And Methods: A total of 56 oral biopsies from non-smoker and non-drinker patients were analyzed. The specimens were grouped into three categories: group 1 included 31 cases of hyperplastic mucosa and mild dysplasia, group 2 included 14 cases of moderate and severe dysplasia, while group 3 comprised 11 cases of invasive squamous cell carcinomas.
