Evaluating the intensity of the 'prompt' 140.5 keV γ-ray of Mo using a 4παβ(LS)-γ(HPGe) measurement system.

The absolute intensity for the 'prompt' 140.5 keV gamma-ray of Mo was evaluated using the β-γ coincidence technique. A liquid sample of Mo was prepared from aMo/Tc generator and measured in a 4παβ(LS)-γ(HPGe) system that comprises a Liquid Scintillator (LS) detector and a High-Purity Germanium (HPGe) detector.

Glucocorticoids induce human glycoprotein hormone alpha-subunit gene expression in the gonadotrope.

The human glycoprotein hormone alpha-subunit (alphaGSU) gene is transcriptionally regulated by glucocorticoids in a cell type-specific fashion. In direct contrast to repression of alphaGSU by glucocorticoids in placenta, glucocorticoid receptor (GR) modulation in the pituitary is little understood. We show that glucocorticoids stimulate the alphaGSU promoter in immortalized pituitary gonadotrope-derived LbetaT2 cells, whereas estrogens, androgens, and progestins have no significant effect.

Orexin A induces GnRH gene expression and secretion from GT1-7 hypothalamic GnRH neurons.

Orexin A, a recently discovered hypothalamic peptide, has been shown to have a stimulatory effect on release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) from rat hypothalamic explants in vitro. However, it is presently unclear whether in vivo this effect is mediated directly at the level of the GnRH neuron, or via multiple afferent neuronal connections. Therefore, in the present study, we investigated the direct action of orexin A on GnRH neurons using the immortalized GnRH-secreting GT1-7 hypothalamic cells.

A program of supported education for adult Israeli students with schizophrenia.

This report describes a supported education program (SEP), a novel community-based program of rehabilitation for psychiatric patients, started in Israel in 1999. Objectives, target population and activities are described. In addition, initial findings of two program-related studies are presented.

From azides to nitriles. A novel fast transformation made possible by BrF3.

[reaction: see text]. Various alkyl and aryl azides, readily obtained from halides or alcohols, were transformed into the corresponding nitriles using bromine trifluoride in moderate to good yields. The reaction is general and gives positive results with aliphatic, aromatic, cyclic, and functionalized azides.
