Improving the identification of people with dementia in primary care: evaluation of the impact of primary care dementia coding guidance on identified prevalence.

Objective: Improving dementia care is a policy priority nationally and internationally; there is a 'diagnosis gap' with less than half of the cases of dementia ever diagnosed. The English Health Department's Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) encourages primary care recognition and recording of dementia. The codes for dementia are complex with the possibility of underidentification through miscoding.

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the tongue.

We report a 27-year-old Congolese man with mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) of the tongue base, which presented as spontaneous intraoral bleeding. Optimal treatment of tongue base MEC is unknown. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case treated with transoral excision with carbon dioxide laser and selective neck dissection.

Quantitation of platelet aggregation and microaggregate formation in whole blood by flow cytometry.

Platelet aggregation and microaggregate formation were measured in samples of stirred whole blood by flow cytometry. Blood samples were stirred in a multi-sample agitator with ADP, fixed and labelled with a platelet-specific CD42a-FITC fluorescent antibody. The blood was then diluted and applied directly to a flow cytometer.
