A2059G mutation in the 23S rRNA gene is the only reported mechanism conferring high-level azithromycin resistance (HL-AZMR) in Through U.S. gonococcal antimicrobial resistance surveillance projects, we identified four HL-AZMR gonococcal isolates lacking this mutational genotype.

In this study conducted in the Forecariah mangrove focus in Guinea, HAT patients and serological suspects (SERO) were identified through mass screening of the population with the Card Agglutination Test for Trypanosomiasis (CATT) and were followed up for up to 2 years. Analysis of the samples collected during the follow-up of HAT patients and SERO was performed with PCR (TBR1/TBR2) and the trypanolysis serological test (TL) in order to clarify the role played by these individuals in the epidemiology of HAT.

The clinical evolution of this disease is complex and might be because of the parasite itself, as genetic diversity has been observed in T. brucei ssp.

Our aim was to investigate the interrelationships between previously analysed risk factors and the roles of age and time of exposure according to ethnic group and migration status. However, this descriptive and retrospective study is based on cases only (no controls) and our results must therefore be regarded as hypothesis-generating.
