Infant Maternal Perinatal Advanced Care Team: A Pilot Collaboration for Families Facing a Life-Threatening Fetal Diagnosis.

The Infant Maternal Perinatal Advanced Care Team program was launched in 2018 to enhance perinatal palliative care services in Toronto, Canada. Pilot patients were (1) carrying a fetus with a life-limiting diagnosis and (2) receiving care at the high-risk fetal center. Individualized care included opportunities for establishing goals, labor/delivery planning, grief support, and pediatric palliative care support.

Surface-Induced Frustration in Solid State Polymorphic Transition of Native Cellulose Nanocrystals.

The presence of an interface generally influences crystallization of polymers from melt or from solution. Here, by contrast, we explore the effect of surface immobilization in a direct solid state polymorphic transition on individual cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs), extracted from a plant-based origin. The conversion from native cellulose I to cellulose III crystal occurred via a host-guest inclusion of ethylene diamine inside the crystal.

Modular modification of xylan with UV-initiated thiol-ene reaction.

Birch xylan was functionalized with various thiols through UV initiated radical thiol-ene reaction under mild conditions. Xylan was allylated through etherification with allyl glycidyl ether under alkaline conditions. The allylated xylan was then reacted with thiols containing varying functional groups: trimethylbenzyl mercaptan, dodecanethiol, thioglycolic acid, L-cysteine and cysteamine hydrochloride.
