Risperidone (RSP) is an atypical antipsychotic drug widely used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Nanoparticles (NPs) are being developed as in vivo targeted drug delivery systems, which cross the blood-brain barrier and improve pharmacokinetics and drug effectiveness. Here, biodegradable proteinoids were synthesized by thermal step-growth polymerization from the amino acids l-glutamic acid, l-phenylalanine and l-histidine and poly (l-lactic acid).

Regarding a case of rectal endometriosis, presenting with cyclic menstrual rectal bleeding, the authors discuss the clinical and treatment aspects of such a rare pathology. History was sufficient to indicate the diagnosis which was confirmed by the histological examination of the excised rectal tract. These observations underline the diagnostic difficulty; the surgical approach is the treatment of choice when medical treatment gives no success.

The Authors report their experience in the endoscopic treatment using pneumatic dilatation for 18 patients with achalasia, seen in the period January 1992 August 1995 at the Laboratory of Digestive Endoscopy of the Institute of General Thoracic and Vascular Surgery of the University of Parma. Ten were males and 8 females, age range 23-79 years (average age 48 yrs.).
