Colloid Bodies in Cutaneous Basal Cell Carcinoma: Clinical and Histologic Correlates-An Analysis of 405 Cases.

Background: Colloid bodies (CB), also known as Civatte bodies, are commonly seen in inflammatory dermatoses and are thought to represent cell degeneration. No studies have investigated the incidence and clinical associations of CB in cutaneous basal cell carcinoma (BCC). The aim of this study is to assess the incidence of CB in BCC lesions and analyze their clinical associations.

Schwannian and Perineuriomatous Differentiation in a Series of Giant Congenital Melanocytic Nevi.

Close relationship between melanocytes and neural cells is accepted to reflect their common derivation from the neural crest and tumors combining both elements. We present a series of 10 patients with giant congenital melanocytic nevi (CMN) in which a secondary proliferation (11 lesions) with schwannian and/or perineuriomatous differentiation developed in the course of the disease. The age of the patients (4 male and 6 female) at the time of surgery and histological assessment varied from 3 months to 57 years.

Benign to Malignant Hepatic Lesion Transformation in Abernethy Malformation.

Abernethy malformation or congenital extrahepatic portosystemic shunt is an extremely rare condition whereby the portomesenteric blood drains into a systemic vein and bypasses the liver through a complete or partial shunt. Severe complications include hyperammonemia and encephalopathy, benign and malignant liver tumors, and hepatopulmonary syndrome. We describe a case where a female adult diagnosed with congenital extrahepatic portosystemic shunt subsequently developed focal nodular hyperplasia and then hepatocellular carcinoma.

Effect of Donor Age and Liver Steatosis on Potential of Decellularized Liver Matrices to be used as a Platform for iPSC-Hepatocyte Culture.

Decellularization of discarded whole livers and their recellularization with patient-specific induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to develop a functional organ is a promising approach to increasing the donor pool. The effect of extracellular matrix (ECM) of marginal livers on iPSC-hepatocyte differentiation and function has not been shown. To test the effect of donor liver ECM age and steatosis, young and old, as well as no, low, and high steatosis livers, are decellularized.
