Article Synopsis
  • Recent advancements in affordable depth imaging and 2D Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) have improved machine vision applications, particularly in areas like object detection and segmentation, surpassing older, specialized models.
  • The study emphasizes the importance of sharing training and testing datasets for model evaluation and documenting the effects of stochastic processes during model re-training.
  • In mango orchard applications, a YOLOv8m model achieved an outstanding 99.3% accuracy in detecting fruits while also improving efficiency in fruit sizing and branch avoidance for automated harvesting on edge computing devices.

Apple () is the third most produced fruit worldwide. It is a well-known source of bioactive compounds mainly represented by hydroxycinnamic acids, flavan-3-ols, dihydrochalcones, dehydroascorbic acid, carotenoids, chlorogenic acid, epicatechin, and phloridzin. Due to the lack of a recent evaluation of the clinical trials associated with apple consumption, this review investigated the effects of this fruit on metabolic conditions related to inflammation and oxidative stress and reviewed the applications of apple waste on food products.

Article Synopsis
  • Alzheimer's disease is a leading cause of dementia in the elderly, currently treated with symptom-relief medications that often have side effects and inconsistent results.
  • Extracts from the Ginkgo biloba (GB) herb, containing bioactive compounds, may offer neuroprotective benefits and potentially improve cognitive function in dementia patients.
  • Although many studies show GB as a promising treatment, more research is necessary to determine its optimal use and evaluate safety and drug interactions.

Escherichia coli is one of the key bacteria responsible for a variety of diseases in humans and livestock-associated infections around the globe. It is the leading cause of mortality in neonatal and weaned piglets in pig husbandry, causing diarrhea and significant harm to the industry. Furthermore, the frequent and intensive use of antimicrobials for the prevention of diseases, particularly gastrointestinal diseases, may promote the selection of multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains.
