Therapeutic conflicts in emergency department patients with multimorbidity: a cross-sectional study.

Background: Patients with multimorbidity are an increasing concern in healthcare. Clinical practice guidelines, however, do not take into account potential therapeutic conflicts caused by co-occurring medical conditions. This makes therapeutic decisions complex, especially in emergency situations.

Prevalence of multimorbidity in medical inpatients.

Objective: To validate the estimates of the prevalence of multimorbidity based on administrative hospital discharge data, with medical records and chart reviews as benchmarks.

Design: Retrospective cohort study.

Setting: Medical division of a tertiary care teaching hospital.
