Clinical outcomes of COVID-19 in patients with liver cirrhosis - a propensity-matched analysis from a multicentric Brazilian cohort.

Background: Cirrhosis has been pointed out as a clinical entity that leads to worse clinical prognosis in COVID-19 patients. However, this concept is controversial in the literature. We aimed to evaluate clinical outcomes by comparing patients with cirrhosis to those without cirrhosis in a Brazilian cohort.

Implementation of the care agreements of the CACTO program for mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder.

Objective: to analyze the implementation of care agreements developed in the CACTO program for mothers of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Method: exploratory, qualitative study, guided by Unitary Caring Science and the Implementation Science methodological framework, based on the Consolidated Conceptual Framework for Implementation Research. Conducted with 20 mothers of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, between April 2023 and February 2024, during care meetings developed in a non-governmental organization.

Predictors of HIV testing adherence among men who have sex with men: a cross-sectional study.

Men who have sex with men are a target group for HIV prevention and control. HIV testing is part of a broader combination prevention strategy. This study aimed to analyze the predictors for adherence to HIV infection testing among Brazilian men who have sex with men.

Dose-related effects of eugenol: Exploring renal functionality and morphology in healthy Wistar rats.

Eugenol has pharmacological properties, but its impact on renal function is limitedly studied. Thus, this study evaluated the effects of eugenol at 10, 20, and 40 mg kg, administered via gavage for 60 days, on histological, biochemical, oxidative, and proteomic parameters in rat kidneys. Adult Wistar rats treated with 10 mg kg of eugenol had kidneys with low total antioxidant capacity, high nitric oxide content, and high percentual of blood vessels, with no damage to renal function or morphology.

Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis Secondary to Visceral Leishmaniasis: A Case Report.

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a rare clinical entity characterized by fever, constitutional symptoms, and hepatosplenomegaly associated with the presence of hemophagocytosis in the bone marrow and other organs. Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is a severe zoonotic disease hypoendemic in Portugal, particularly in the Alto Douro region. We report the case of a 21-year-old female patient with a recent diagnosis of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, stage C3, in the context of severe pneumonia, who presented to the emergency department with fever, erythematous rash on the upper limbs and trunk, choluria and jaundice, one week after starting antiretroviral therapy (ART).
