Efficacy and Safety in the Implantation of Totally Implantable Venous Access Devices by Anesthesiologists: Perspectives From a Retrospective Oncology Cohort.

Background: Totally implantable venous access devices (TIVADs) are widely used in oncology patients to facilitate central venous access. Although they offer benefits, TIVADs can be associated with complications.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective cohort study included all oncology patients 18 years or older who underwent TIVAD implantation between September 2015 and October 2019.

CAECENET: An automatic system processing photometer and ceilometer data from different networks to provide columnar and vertically-resolved aerosol properties.

This work introduces CAECENET, a new system capable of automatically retrieving columnar and vertically-resolved aerosol properties running the GRASP (Generalized Retrieval of Atmosphere and Surface Properties) algorithm using sun-sky photometer (aerosol optical depth, AOD; and sky radiance measurements) and ceilometer (range corrected signal; RCS) data as input. This method, so called GRASPpac, is implemented in CAECENET, which assimilates sun-sky photometers data from CÆLIS database and ceilometer data from ICENET database (Iberian Ceilometer Network). CAECENET allows for continuous and near-real-time monitoring of both vertical and columnar aerosol properties.

Evaluation of enterochromaffin-like cell hyperplasia can help categorize patients with Helicobacter-negative atrophic gastritis.

Objectives: Atrophic gastritis (AG) is characterized by atrophy of gastric glands-in particular, oxyntic glands-in the setting of chronic inflammation; it is often autoimmune. The diagnosis is confirmed by immunohistochemistry (IHC) for gastrin (to confirm biopsy site), and pathologists often use IHC for neuroendocrine markers to evaluate for enterochromaffin-like cell hyperplasia (ECL-H). The utility of neuroendocrine staining is unclear, and we undertook this study to determine whether ECL pattern provided any additional information in cases of Helicobacter-negative AG.

The Smokeless Paradox: Nontobacco Nicotine Use and Complications in Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion.

Introduction: Cervical fusion surgeries are commonly performed to stabilize the spine and relieve pain from various conditions. Recent increases in nontobacco nicotine product use, such as electronic cigarettes, present new challenges because of their unknown effects on spinal fusion outcomes. Our study aims to explore the effect of nontobacco nicotine dependence (NTND) on the success of cervical spinal fusions.

Objectives: Hospital staff are expected to report adverse events to safety leaders and risk managers. At our institution, staff report adverse events via an incident reporting software system, known as "RL." These "RL reports" are kept separate from patient medical records.
