The Photoheterotroph Dokdonia sp. MED134 Modulates the Expression of Resource Acquisition and Anaplerotic Carbon Fixation Pathways in Response to Temperature.

Temperature has an overriding impact on microbial physiology, but the molecular basis of thermal acclimation in many ecologically relevant marine bacterial taxa remains unexplored. We used quantitative transcriptomics to analyse the transcriptional reprogramming of a proteorhodopsin-based photoheterotroph, Dokdonia sp. MED134, during thermal acclimation from 10°C to 34°C.

Association of inherited genetic variants with multiple primary melanoma.

Background: Recent genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified new susceptibility loci for melanoma, but their associations with multiple primary melanoma (MPM) are unclear.

Methods: We investigated the associations of 69 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in 39 GWAS-identified loci with odds of MPM relative to single primary melanoma (SPM) in the international, population-based Genes, Environment, and Melanoma (GEM) study. Per-minor allele odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for individuals with MPM 'cases' (n=1,205) relative to SPM 'controls' (n=2,458) were estimated using multivariable logistic regression, and polygenic risk scores (PRS) were calculated and weighted based on a 2020 GWAS meta-analysis (57 of the 68 independent GWAS SNPs available).

Cardiovascular and Risk Factor Outcomes for Ethnic Minorities From Cardiac Rehabilitation: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Purpose: To determine the benefits of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) among ethnic minorities for cardiovascular risk factors (systolic blood pressure [BP], exercise capacity, lipids, body fat), mortality, and morbidity, and compare outcomes to majority reference groups.

Review Methods: We searched electronic databases (Medline, EMBASE, CINAHL, Scopus, Cochrane Library) from inception until September 2023 for studies reporting CR outcomes of ethnic minorities. Meta-analyses were conducted for data that could be pooled using random effects model.

T-type calcium channels regulate medulloblastoma and can be targeted for therapy.

Purpose: The goal of this study was to investigate the role and therapeutic targeting of T-type calcium channels in medulloblastoma, a common and deadly pediatric brain tumor that arises in the cerebellum.

Methods: T-type calcium channel expression was assessed in publicly available bulk and single cell RNA-seq datasets. The effects of T-type calcium channel blocker mibefradil on cell growth, death and invasion were assessed with cell counting, alamar blue, trypan blue and transwell assays.

Psychosocial Well-Being and Healthy Eating in Cardiac Rehabilitation: A National Survey of Cardiac Rehabilitation Practitioners Self-Reported Practices.

Background: Psychosocial well-being and nutritional counselling are important components of cardiac rehabilitation endorsed by national and international guidelines. However, both areas can be complex for cardiac rehabilitation practitioners to navigate. This study aimed to examine whether practitioners have implemented standardised program content for psychosocial well-being and healthy eating and explore attitudes to these components.
