Unlabelled: Impaction grafting is controversial in the presence of segmental and cavitary acetabular defects and requires the use of supplemental devices to close segmental defects. This approach, however, would allow treating combined deficiencies that could not be managed with impacted cancellous bone alone. We raised the following two questions: (1) What is the survival rate in patients with combined deficiencies reconstructed with metal mesh, impaction grafting and a cemented cup and (2) can metal mesh prevent cup migration? We evaluated 23 cavitary uncontained acetabular defects in revision hip arthroplasty.

This article summarises a clinical and radiographical analysis of 30 acetabular revisions in patients younger than 55 years old, performed with impaction bone grafting and cemented cups. Preoperative Merle D'Aubigne and Postel functional score was an average 7 points. At a mean follow-up of 86.

Background: The diagnosis of a suspected infected prosthesis is often difficult, but is important for the choice of treatment. Even at surgery, it is not easy to assess whether the prosthesis is infected or not--even though this may be important for the choice of surgical procedure.

Patients And Methods: We assessed the sensitivity, specificity, predictive value, and reliability of the results of the analysis of frozen sections from samples of tissues taken during revision hip surgery of 136 probably infected prostheses.

Acetabular reconstruction with impacted bone allografts and cemented acetabular components: a 2- to 13-year follow-up study of 142 aseptic revisions.

We reviewed the clinical and radiological results of 131 patients who underwent acetabular revision for aseptic loosening with impacted bone allograft and a cemented acetabular component. The mean follow-up was 51.7 months (24 to 156).

Vancomycin-supplemented impacted bone allografts in infected hip arthroplasty. Two-stage revision results.

Bone allografts can store and release high levels of vancomycin. We present our results of a two-stage treatment for infected hip arthroplasty with acetabular and femoral impaction grafting using vancomycin-loaded allografts. We treated 29 patients (30 hips) by removal of the implants, meticulous debridement, parenteral antibiotic therapy and second-stage reconstruction using vancomycin-supplemented impacted bone allografts and a standard, cemented Charnley femoral component.
