Surgically assisted maxillary expansion: Influence of piezosurgery on the complications linked to the midline osteotomy.

Transverse maxillary deficiency requires surgical maxillary expansion when the midpalatal suture is closed. The midline osteotomy of the maxilla can lead to significant dental, gingival and bone complications. Technically, this osteotomy is usually performed using osteotomes, a burr or an oscillating saw, but is increasingly being replaced by piezosurgery.

[Frontozygomatic dermoid cysts].

Dermoid cysts are embryological derivatives from soft tissues. They result from an ectodermic inclusion in the mesoderm, during the early embryonic development. These cysts have a slow development and are mostly encountered in the pediatric population.

Mechanical characterization of soft-tissue stiffness during mandibular distraction.

The purpose of this study was to determine the stiffness of mandibular soft tissues during mandibular distraction, from the perspective of improving distraction devices such as automated continuous distractors. Uncompleted osteotomy was performed on 11 fresh human hemimandibles via a greenstick fracture, to preserve the uplift of the internal periosteum of the mandibular corpus. In order to replicate continuous distraction, direct measurements were performed through a uniaxial quasi-static tensile test.

Risk factors for lower border notching after bilateral mandibular sagittal ramus advancement: three-dimensional evaluation.

Bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO) mandibular advancement can cause mandibular lower border notching (MLBN). The objective of this study was to calculate the incidence of MLBN and identify risk factors. This single-centre, retrospective study was performed between January 2018 and November 2020, in the Maxillofacial Surgery Department, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire, Caen.
