The distribution of Ly6C/G-positive cells in response to an infection of the mouse respiratory tract with influenza A virus was followed noninvasively over time by immuno-positron emission tomography. We converted nanobodies that recognize Ly6C and Ly6G, markers of neutrophils and other myeloid cells, as well as an influenza hemagglutinin-specific nanobody, into Zr-labeled PEGylated positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agents. The PET images showed strong accumulation of these imaging agents in the lungs of infected mice.

Just prior to the six-month pilot, the volunteers were mentored in a four-day training programme by local agricultural extension and public health experts. On returning to their villages, contacts and activities by volunteers with local community members were monitored using a CommCare application, enabling uploaded data to be accessed in real-time.

Used to improve scientists' understanding of the importance of scale within oceanic ecosystems, this influential diagram addressed biological scales from phytoplankton to fish, physical scales from diurnal tides to ocean currents, and temporal scales from hours to ice ages. Yet the Stommel Diagram (named for physical oceanographer Henry Stommel, who created it in 1963) had not been devised to aid ecological investigations.
