Background/objectives: This study examined the association between maternal anger, children's externalizing symptoms, and the moderating impact of maternal adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) in the context of intimate partner violence (IPV). The primary objective was to investigate whether maternal ACEs alter the link between maternal anger and children's externalizing symptoms, guided by theoretical frameworks such as the stress sensitization and stress steeling models.

Methods: A sample of 159 Portuguese mothers exposed to IPV participated in the study, completing a protocol of self-report measures.

Mismatch negativity (MMN) is an event-related potential component automatically elicited by events that violate predictions based on prior events. To elicit this component, researchers use stimulus repetition to induce predictions, and the MMN is obtained by subtracting the brain response to rare or unpredicted stimuli from that of frequent stimuli. Under the Predictive Processing framework, one increasingly popular interpretation of the mismatch response postulates that MMN represents a prediction error.

Article Synopsis
  • Cannabis has been the most commonly used illicit drug, especially among young people, with research indicating links to mental health issues due to its impact on brain functions related to reward and cognition, though these findings are often inconsistent.
  • A study classified participants based on their cannabis use from ages 19 to 22, examining predictive factors like psychopathological symptoms, cognitive performance, and brain activity through tasks designed to measure incentives.
  • Results showed that conduct problems at age 14 were a strong predictor of later cannabis use, and while light cannabis users displayed more behavioral issues than non-users at age 19, there were no significant differences in emotional or cognitive functioning, suggesting that executive function impairments aren't factors that lead to or follow cannabis use.

Childhood maltreatment is the strongest predictor of psychopathology and personality disorders across the lifespan and is strongly associated with a variety of psychological problems, namely, mood and anxiety disorders, behavioral and personality disorders, substance abuse, aggression, and self-harm. In this study, we aim to provide a comprehensive picture of the interplay between different traits of psychopathy and distinct dimensions of childhood maltreatment, emotion regulation, and aggression. Using a cross-sectional design, we employed correlational network analysis to explore the nomological network of psychopathy and provide a sample-based estimate of the population parameters reflecting the direction, strength, and patterns of relationships between variables.

Background: Differences in short and long-latency Event-Related Potentials (ERPs) can help us infer abnormalities in brain processing, considering early and later stages of stimuli processing across tasks and conditions. In autism research, the adult population remains largely understudied compared to samples at early stages of development. In this context, this scoping review briefly summarises what has been described in community and subclinical adult samples of autism.
