Uterine leiomyosarcoma (uLMS) is a rare and aggressive cancer representing approximately 25 % of all uterine malignancies. The molecular heterogeneity and pathogenesis of uLMS are not well understood, and translational studies aimed at discovering the vulnerabilities of this tumor type are of high priority. We conducted an innovative comprehensive multi-omics integration study from DNA to protein using freshly frozen tumors.

Unlocking the transcriptional profiles of an oily waste-degrading bacterial consortium.

This study investigates the transcriptional profile of a novel oil-degrading microbial consortium (MC1) composed of four bacterial isolates from Brazilian oil reservoirs: Acinetobacter baumannii subsp. oleum ficedula, Bacillus velezensis, Enterobacter asburiae, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Genomic analysis revealed an enrichment of genes associated with xenobiotic degradation, particularly for aminobenzoate, atrazine, and aromatic compounds, compared to reference genomes.

Built environment and physical activity in adolescents: Use of the kernel density estimation and the walkability index.

The availability of places for physical activity (PA) and the walkability of the neighborhood can impact the level of PA of adolescents. However, studies of this nature are still limited in Latin America. This study had two objectives: 1- using kernel density estimative, it investigated whether individuals living near PA places that are more intensely distributed than dispersed are more likely to be sufficiently active; 2-checked whether adolescents who live in neighborhoods with better walkability have a greater chance of being sufficiently active.

Are telocytes related to maintenance of vascular homeostasis in normal and pathological aorta?

The telocyte (TC) is a new interstitial cell type described in a wide variety of organs and loose connective tissues around small vessels, but its presence in large arteries remains unexplored. TCs have small cell bodies and remarkably thin, long, moniliform processes called telopods (Tps). Using transmission electron microscopy and immunofluorescence, we identified TCs in normal human thoracic aortas and in those with aneurysm or acute dissection (TAAD).
