Article Synopsis
  • Thalassemia, particularly beta-thalassemia major, is a hereditary anemia marked by insufficient beta-globin chain production, leading to iron overload from frequent blood transfusions, with significant health complications like endocrinopathies.
  • The study focused on children aged 6 months to 14 years, examining growth and endocrine function in relation to serum ferritin levels, which indicate iron overload.
  • Results revealed a high prevalence of endocrinopathy, with short stature being the most commonly observed issue, particularly among boys and younger children.

Background: Vitamin B and folate are essential micronutrients, a deficiency of which causes anaemia, poor growth and an increased risk of infections, along with irreversible neurological damage to the developing brain in children.

Methods: A hospital-based prospective observational study was conducted in 100 children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM) aged 6-59 months admitted to a tertiary-care facility in northern India from July 2021 to June 2022. A structured proforma was used to record socio-demographic information, a detailed clinical history, results of general and systemic physical examination and a detailed anthropometric assessment.

Background: Data sharing improves the value, synthesis, and integrity of research, but rates are low. Data sharing might be improved if data sharing policies were prominent and actionable at every stage of research. We aimed to systematically describe the epidemiology of data sharing policies across the health research lifecycle.

Article Synopsis
  • Hispanic Americans, the largest ethnic group in the U.S., face unfair kidney transplant opportunities, especially in cities like San Antonio, Texas, where many are Hispanic.
  • A study of nearly 12,000 patients showed fewer Hispanic patients on the transplant waitlist and fewer received kidney transplants compared to White patients.
  • The findings suggest that even though Hispanic patients might stay on the waitlist longer without complications, they still have less chance of getting a transplant, highlighting the need to change views about their eligibility for transplants.

A fish-bone-shaped and thermochemically stable 2D metal-organic framework (MOF) with multimodal active center-decked pore-wall is devised. Redox-active [Co(COO)] node and thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole functionalization benefit this mixed-ligand MOF exhibiting electrochemical water oxidation with 375 mV overpotential at 10 mA cm current density and 78 mV per dec Tafel slope in alkaline medium. Pair of oppositely oriented carboxylic acids aids postmetalation with transition metal ions to engineer heterobimetallic materials.
