The topic of patients recording healthcare consultations has been previously debated in the literature, but little consideration has been given to the risks and benefits of such recordings in the context of mental health assessments and treatment. This issue is of growing importance given the increasing use of technology in healthcare and the recent increase in online healthcare services, largely accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. We discuss the clinical, ethical and legal considerations relevant to audio or visual recordings of mental health consultations by patients, with reference to existing UK guidance and the inclusion of a patient's perspective.

Boron has become the principle proxy for the release of seawater-derived fluids into arc volcanics, linked to cross-arc variations in boron content and isotopic ratio. Because all ocean floor serpentinites so far analysed are strongly enriched in boron, it is generally assumed that if the uppermost slab mantle is hydrated, it will also be enriched in boron. Here we present the first measurements of boron and boron isotopes in fast-spread oceanic gabbros in the Pacific, showing strong take-up of seawater-derived boron during alteration.

Recent epidemiological evidence connects ambient air pollutants to adverse neurobehavioural effects in adults. In animal models, subchronic controlled exposures to diesel exhaust (DE) have also showed evidence of neuroinflammation. Evidence suggests that DE not only affects outcomes commonly associated with cognitive dysfunction, but also balance impairment.

Immunoassays such as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) are widely used for diagnostics; however, antibodies as detection reagents may be insufficiently selective and have other shortcomings. We present a novel non-antibody-based detection method based on binding target molecules to peptides (used as recognition molecules): a surface assay for A-β oligomers employing a peptide comprising amino acid residues of the human β-amyloid protein (Pronucleon peptide) as the capture agent. For the sake of convenience, we term this the "Pronucleon peptide-linked immunosorbent assay", or PLISA.

Context: Epidemiological studies and animal research have suggested that air pollution may negatively impact the central nervous system (CNS). Controlled human exposure studies of the effect of air pollution on the brain have potential to enhance our understanding of this relationship and to inform potential biological mechanisms.

Objectives: Biomarkers of systemic and CNS inflammation may address whether air pollution exposure induces inflammation, with potential for CNS negative effects.
