Article Synopsis
  • - Intergenerational justice emphasizes the importance of preserving Earth's biodiversity, and recent international efforts aim to protect 30% of terrestrial environments to counter climate change impacts.
  • - The review highlights the potential of reproduction biotechnologies, biobanks, and conservation breeding programs (RBCs) in achieving sustainability goals, while discussing their current applications and future possibilities.
  • - A push for enhanced support and collaborations for amphibian RBCs is needed, focusing on regions with the highest amphibian diversity and involving local communities, in order to prevent extinctions amidst geopolitical and cultural challenges.

Objective: To examine the effect of esketamine nasal spray (ESK) plus newly initiated oral antidepressant (OAD) versus OAD plus placebo nasal spray (PBO) on the association between Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) and 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) scores in adults with treatment-resistant depression (TRD).

Methods: Data from TRANSFORM-1 and TRANSFORM-2 (two similarly designed, randomized, active-controlled TRD studies) and SUSTAIN-1 (relapse prevention study) were analyzed. Group differences for mean changes in PHQ-9 total score from baseline were compared using analysis of covariance.

T-cell intracellular antigen 1 (TIA1) and TIA1-like/related protein (TIAL1/TIAR) are two members of the classical family of RNA binding proteins. Through their selective interactions with distinct RNAs and proteins, these multifunctional regulators are involved in chromatin remodeling, RNA splicing and processing and translation regulation, linking them to a wide range of diseases including neuronal disorders, cancer and other pathologies. From their discovery to the present day, many studies have focused on the behavior of these proteins in order to understand their impact on molecular and cellular processes and to understand their relationship to human pathologies.

Peptide engineering has gained attraction as a source of new cationicity-enhanced analogues with high potential for the design of next-generation antibiotics. In this context, cruzioseptin-1 (CZS-1), a peptide identified from Cruziohyla calcarifer, is recognized for its antimicrobial potency. However, this amidated-peptide is moderately hemolytic.

The Imbabura treefrog (Boana picturata) is an underexplored source of bioactive peptides. The combination of molecular cloning and mass spectrometry allowed us to identify three new peptide families, named "Picturins" (PTR), "Pictuseptins" (PTS), and "Boanins" (BNS). PTR is composed of three 25-mer peptides, characterized by the N-terminal sequence: GVFKDALKQ and the C-terminal sequence: AANALKPK.
