Article Synopsis
  • Non-tuberculous mycobacteriosis (NTM) is a rare infection that can affect the lungs, skin, or spread throughout the body, with cutaneous infections often linked to weakened immune systems or contaminated sources.
  • A case study of a 54-year-old man with a persistent skin ulcer showed that his initial treatment was ineffective, leading to HIV testing which revealed advanced infection.
  • Proper antimicrobial treatment for NTM and the start of antiretroviral therapy significantly improved the patient's condition, demonstrating the need to consider underlying immunosuppressive factors in persistent skin infections to prevent serious complications.

Varkud satellite ribozyme (VS ribozyme) is a class of catalytic RNA with self-cleavage activity. The wild-type VS ribozyme has structural modularity with a relatively large catalytic module (H2-H6 elements) and a small substrate module (H1 element). The two modules can be dissected physically, and the substrate H1 RNA is recognized and then cleaved by the rest of the parent ribozyme serving as catalytic RNA.

Purpose: The development of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrasting agents (CAs) that are safer and have a higher relaxivity than Gd(III)-based agents is a significant research topic. Herein, we propose the use of a Mn-based metal organic framework (MOF), Mn-MOF-74, characterized by a safe paramagnetic center, a coordinatively unsaturated site (CUS) for aquation, and a long rotational correlation time, endowing high relaxivity. Furthermore, biocompatibility and delivery to the tumor are generally expected for MOFs that are obtainable in the nanometer size range.

Background: The pararectus (PR) approach combines the advantages of the second window of the ilioinguinal approach and the medial view of the modified Stoppa approach. However, it is unclear whether the PR approach is more effective or safer than the other approaches, as few clinical studies have compared the PR approach with the other approaches. The aim of this study was to provide a systematic review and meta-analysis comparing the PR approach with the other approaches for the treatment of acetabular fractures and to answer the following question: Are the results of the PR approach superior to those of the other approaches in terms of reduction quality, operative time, operative blood loss, complications, and clinical outcomes for treatment of acetabular fractures?

Patients And Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted using relevant original studies from various databases.

Background: The adherence to home exercise is generally low despite its well-known effect on knee osteoarthritis. Therefore, we developed a home exercise application, LongLifeSupport, to provide patients with daily basic exercise videos and an automatic recording calendar. We hypothesized that this application would encourage patients to exercise and help maintain their motivation; this pilot study aimed to determine their exercise adherence rates.
