Purpose: External dosimetry audits give confidence in the safe and accurate delivery of radiotherapy. The RTTQA group have performed an on-site audit programme for trial recruiting centres, who have recently implemented static or rotational IMRT, and those with major changes to planning or delivery systems.

Methods: Measurements of reference beam output were performed by the host centre, and by the auditor using independent equipment.

Background And Purpose: FAST-Forward is a phase 3 clinical trial testing a 1-week course of whole breast radiotherapy against the UK standard 3-week regimen after primary surgery for early breast cancer. Two acute skin toxicity substudies were undertaken to test the safety of the test schedules with respect to early skin reactions.

This study investigates the influence of the initial X-ray system setting on patient doses and image quality in interventional cardiology procedures. Two dedicated interventional cardiology systems were studied: a system with image intensifier (II) and a flat detector (FD) system. Entrance surface air kerma (ESAK) rates in fluoroscopy and ESAK per frame in the acquisition mode were measured on the surface of a PMMA phantom for the field of views (FOV) of 23 and 17 cm (II system) and 25 and 20 cm (FD system).

Objectives: A national study on patient dose values in interventional radiology and cardiology was performed in order to assess current practice in Bulgaria, to estimate the typical patient doses and to propose reference levels for the most common procedures.

Methods: Fifteen units and more than 1,000 cases were included. Average values of the measured parameters for three procedures-coronary angiography (CA), combined procedure (CA + PCI) and lower limb arteriography (LLA)--were compared with data published in the literature.

The parallel study of soil specimens from the burrows of great gerbils, taken in the natural focus of infection at the period between epidemics, by the bacteriological method and with the use of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) demonstrated that, simultaneously with the negative results of inoculations into nutrient media, PCR revealed the presence of Y. pestis in 4 out of 72 soil specimens. The serological study (in the indirect hemagglutination test) revealed the presence of Y.
