View Article and Find Full Text PDFSediment cores from 47 inland lakes in Michigan, USA were used to assess spatial and temporal trends in loadings of mercury (Hg). Focusing/background corrected accumulation rates and inventories and peak concentrations were used to examine: 1) responses of loadings to post-1990 reductions in emissions, 2) if spatial trends are consistent with modeled Hg deposition and 3) evidence for local and distal inputs. Results showed that decreases in concentrations and anthropogenic accumulation rates of Hg were consistent with recent reductions in emissions of Hg.

Nanosized BaFeCuO powders were prepared using the Pechini method. To limit grain growth and agglomeration, the temperature of calcination was limited to 800 °C. For all samples, the cubic form of BaFeO was predominant with minor additional phases.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOxide diffusion was studied in two innovative SOFC cathode materials, Ba(2)Co(9)O(14) and Ca(3)Co(4)O(9)+δ derivatives. Although oxygen diffusion was confirmed in the promising material Ba(2)Co(9)O(14), it was not possible to derive accurate transport parameters because of an oxidation process at the sample surface which has still to be clarified. In contrast, oxygen diffusion in the well-known Ca(3)Co(4)O(9)+δ thermoelectric material was improved when calcium was partly substituted with strontium, likely due to an increase of the volume of the rock salt layers in which the conduction process takes place.
