The study of clinical and laboratory features of patients with occluded main arteries of lower extremities included morphological characteristics of peripheral blood platelets in patients of different age in the acute period of the disease and after surgical treatment. The results were subjected to correlation analysis versus standard hemostatic parameters. Mean cell volume and enhanced anisocytosis proved the most informative morphological indicators.

In most cases the immediate cause of lethal outcomes of aplastic anemia is increased hemorrhage. The multifactorial causality of development of hemorrhagic syndrome is to be taken into account to receive informative and accessible characteristics in assessing the state of homeostasis system in patients with aplastic anemia during acute period of disease. The comprehensive analysis of homeostasis system indicators during acute course of aplastic anemia established such characteristic alterations as the presence of signs of activation of homeostasis system, decrease of factor XIII level, inhibition of fibrinolysis system, qualitative deficiency of platelets in peripheral blood.

The paper presents the results of a study of the morphometry of peripheral blood erythrocytes in elderly, senile, and long-living persons on an ASPEK Russian computer cell image analyzer, by applying the programs to measure the sizes of the cells and their hemoglobin count. By examining large amounts of erythrocytes, the use of a current technology provides objective characteristics of not only cell sizes, but also fundamentally new information on hemoglobin count in an individual erythrocyte and on the structure of red blood cells in terms of this indicator. The average diameter and area of a red blood cell population were ascertained to correspond to the generally accepted adult upper normal ranges manually calculated.

The paper presents the results of computed morphometry of peripheral red blood cells in elderly patients with B12-deficiency anemia before treatment. The study was performed in the fine Romanovsky-stained peripheral blood smears, by using an ASPEK Russian hematological cell image analyzer. The objective quantitative characteristics of the parameters of the major megaloblastic hematopoiesis markers (macro- and megalocytes) in peripheral blood are given.

The proliferative activity of bone marrow cells was studied by flow cytofluorometry in 8 patients with aplastic anemia (AA), 6 with myelodyspastic syndrome (MDS), and 26 normal subjects aged 21-40 years. The myelokaryocyte proliferation was inhibited at the G0-1 stages of cell cycle, the number of cells in the S phase was decreased, and the coefficient of variations cV of DNA cytofluorometry values were increased in AA patients in comparison with the norm. By contrast, in MDS patients the number of cells in the G0-1 phase was decreased and that of cells in the S phase increased in comparison with the norm and with AA patients; cV was increased.
