Immature survival and female longevity of Aedes aegypti under natural winter conditions in the temperate region of Argentina.

The performance of Aedes aegypti was evaluated under natural winter nutritional and thermal conditions in the temperate region of Argentina. Immature stages were reared using leaf litter as a food source. The rearing was structured in three cohorts, the first started in late-fall, the second in early-winter and the last in mid-winter, and in each cohort two treatments were arranged according to solar exposure (sun and shade).

Antiviral and immunomodulatory effects of ouabain against congenital Zika syndrome model.

Zika virus (ZIKV) is an arbovirus associated with neurological disorders accompanying congenital infections. With no vaccine or antiviral approved, there is an urgent need for the development of effective antiviral agents against ZIKV infection. We evaluated the anti-ZIKV and immunomodulatory activity of ouabain, a Na/K-ATPase inhibitor known to have immunomodulatory and antiviral activities, using human neural stem and progenitor cells (hNS/PCs) and a murine model of congenital Zika syndrome (CZS).

Body Image and Self-Harming Behaviors in Adolescents: The Mediating Effect of Somatization.

In the present investigation, we used structural equation modeling with 251 adolescents to reveal, through path analyses, the degree to which somatization might mediate the relationships between body image and self-harming behaviors. After controlling for the effects of (a) age, (b) gender, and (c) having previously visited a psychologist, we observed that somatization fully mediated both the relationship between body image and self-harming behaviors and the relationship between gender and self-harming behaviors. These results suggest that having a less satisfied relationship with the body or a more negative body image is closely related to a somatic experience of greater psychological suffering, which could lead, in turn, to a more active expression of this suffering through self-harming behaviors.
