To compare the safety and efficacy of antidepressants (AD) among older adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) by assessing treatment change, augmentation and hospitalization rates. This retrospective study analyzed data from the Veterans Affairs (VA) database, including 142,138 patients aged ≥60 years diagnosed with MDD. Patients prescribed bupropion, citalopram, duloxetine, escitalopram, fluoxetine, mirtazapine, paroxetine, sertraline, or venlafaxine were included.

Human populations are experiencing unprecedented growth and longevity with lingering knowledge gaps of the characteristics, mechanisms, and pathologies of senescence. Invasive measurements and long-term control conditions for longitudinal studies are infeasible, necessitating the need for surrogate animal models. Rats have short lifespans (2-3 years) with translatable cardiovascular systems, and Sprague Dawley microcirculatory preparations are key to studying the oxygen transport mechanisms critical to the loss of skeletal muscle function in aging.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to review the pharmacokinetic profile of gentamicin among neonates with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) undergoing therapeutic hypothermia (TH) treatment.

Methods: This was a retrospective study of neonates with HIE undergoing TH in the neonatal intensive care unit who received gentamicin between 2009 and 2014. Demographic information, diagnoses, laboratory test results, and medication administration and monitoring information were collected, and data were analyzed using SciPy.

Congenital cytomegalovirus is a leading cause of neurodevelopmental impairment and sensorineural hearing loss. We evaluated infants ≤21 days postnatal age who had both urine and saliva cytomegalovirus testing and determined concordance between the 2 tests and influence of very low birth weight on concordance. Discordance was low overall between urine and saliva testing; however, discordance was high in very low birth weight infants.

Background: The Antimicrobial Resistance Laboratory Network (AR Lab Network) was developed by the CDC to detect emerging antimicrobial-resistant (AR) threats and prevent outbreaks. However, low submission rates of AR isolates limit the potential of the AR Lab Network to address antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
