Severity and disability related to epilepsy from the perspective of patients and physicians: A cross-cultural adaptation of the GASE and GAD scales.

Purpose: To perform a cross-cultural adaptation of the Global Assessment of Severity of Epilepsy (GASE) and Global Assessment of Disability (GAD) scales to Brazilian Portuguese and compare patients' self-rated scores with their attending physicians' ratings.

Methods: We conducted an observational, multicentre, cross-sectional study. Patients followed up in five epilepsy centres in Brazil responded to GASE and GAD questionnaires and to the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and the Adverse Events Profile, both previously validated in Brazil.

Key performance indicators for stroke from the Ministry of Health of Brazil: benchmarking and indicator parameters.

Methods: All 16 KPIs were analyzed, including the percentage of patients admitted to the stroke unit, venous thromboembolism prophylaxis in the first 48 hours after admission, pneumonia and hospital mortality due to stroke, and hospital discharge on antithrombotic therapy in patients without cardioembolic mechanism.

Results: Both centers admitted over 80% of the patients in their stroke unit. The incidence of venous thromboembolism prophylaxis was > 85%, that of in-hospital pneumonia was < 13%, the hospital mortality for stroke was < 15%, and the hospital discharge on antithrombotic therapy was > 70%.

Does the side of middle cerebral artery compromise matters in the mortality after thrombolysis in ischemic stroke?

Unlabelled: The impact of the side in middle cerebral artery (MCA) ischemic stroke is not well established. Our aim was to analyze the differences between right (RMCA) and left middle cerebral artery (LMCA) stroke in patients submitted to intravenous thrombolysis and the influence of the affected side in the patient's mortality after 3 months.

Method: Patients with MCA ischemic stroke submitted to intravenous thrombolysis from March 2010 to December 2011 at two Brazilian Stroke Centers were included.

Heat-related illness among Oregon farmworkers.

Farmworkers are particularly vulnerable to climate-sensitive health outcomes such as heat-related illness (HRI) given their tasks involve heavy exertion in an outdoor setting. The objectives of the study were to: (1) describe symptoms of HRI experienced by farmworkers and (2) explore factors associated with heat knowledge, level of concern regarding HRI, and comfort level taking breaks at work. Bilingual research staff conducted personal interviews of 100 farmworkers during July and August 2013.
