Antiretroviral therapy (ART) controls HIV-1 replication in people with HIV-1 (PWH), but immunological restauration at mucosal barrier surfaces is not achieved. This fuels microbial translocation, chronic immune activation, and increased comorbidities, including cardiovascular disease (CVD).
