Bioaugmentation experiments with the aerobic denitrifier Microvirgula aerodenitrificans were performed in an aerobic continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) treating urban wastewater. The fate of the added bacteria was monitored by a specific fluorescent oligonucleotide probe targeting 16S rRNA. The first addition of the strain led to its rapid disappearance because of grazing.
