The application of barrier membranes in guided bone regeneration (GBR) has become a commonly used surgical technique in periodontal research. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the in vitro biocompatibility and osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) on two different collagenous coatings (nano electrospun fibrous vs. solid wall) of bilayered collagen/chitosan membrane and their histological evaluation on bone regeneration in rabbit calvarial defects.

Introduction: Despite various guidelines for venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention, malpractice in prescribing thromboprophylaxis is common. In this study, factors associated with prescribing or not prescribing appropriate chemical thromboprophylaxis were assessed.

Materials And Methods: We enrolled high-risk patients for VTE (based on Caprini score) in the general surgery ward.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers aimed to identify factors that influence mortality in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) using data from a national trauma project in Iran over five years.
  • A total of 2,274 TBI patients were analyzed, with a majority being male and the average age around 30; 16.9% of patients died from their injuries.
  • Key factors linked to mortality included age, Glasgow Coma Scale score, Injury Severity Score, blood pressure, and respiratory rate, highlighting the need for careful monitoring and management of these patients in emergency settings.

Tissue-engineered gingival graft was used for regenerating facial gingiva around an implant at lower left first premolar area with insufficient attached gingiva. Engineered gingival graft was produced by mixing 250 ml bovine skin collagen with 250 ml nutritional medium containing human gingival fibroblasts (2×10(5)). 3 months post-surgery, there were gains in the attached gingiva compared to pre-surgery.

Background: Finding biocompatible matrix materials capable of enhancing the procedures of gingival augmentation is a major concern in periodontal research. This has prompted the investigation of a safe grafting technique by means of synthetic or natural polymers. The objective of this study is to examine the effect of a gingival fibroblast cultured on a naturally derived (i.
