Drug-Loaded Polymeric Particulated Systems for Ophthalmic Drugs Release.

Drug delivery to the anterior or posterior segments of the eye is a major challenge due to the protection barriers and removal mechanisms associated with the unique anatomical and physiological nature of the ocular system. The paper presents the preparation and characterization of drug-loaded polymeric particulated systems based on pre-emulsion coated with biodegradable polymers. Low molecular weight biopolymers (chitosan, sodium hyaluronate and heparin sodium) were selected due to their ability to attach polymer chains to the surface of the growing system.

Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy - Case report.

Unlabelled: Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy is the most common mitochondrial condition and is characterized by bilateral, painless, subacute visual loss that develops during young adult life. LHON is a rare condition and this lack of knowledge can make doctors suspect and treat for other causes of vision loss. Typically, a series of tests are performed to confirm LHON diagnosis or exclude any other conditions.

Terson's Syndrome - case report.

Terson's Syndrome is represented by a vitreous, retrohyaloid, retinal, or subretinal hemorrhage occurring consequent to an acute intracranial hemorrhage or elevated intracranial pressure. The outcome may include a complete clearing of the blood and the restoration of VA or persistent hemorrhage. This report presents the case of a 43-year-old woman who underwent bilateral surgery for a persistent vitreous hemorrhage and a hematoma underneath the internal limiting membrane in the left eye.

[Effect of systematic vaccination on the epidemiology of urlian parotiditis in the population of Bucharest].

Objective: describe the mumps evolution during the time period that immediately followed the introduction of routine mumps vaccine into the Bucharest municipality's population.

Methods: observational, descriptive, and retrospective study. The temporal frequencies were taken from official reports of clinically confirmed mumps cases with annually sequence during the 1951-2001 period and monthly sequence during the 2002-2009 period of time respectively.

[Prevalence of risk factors and mechanisms of transmission of acute viral hepatitis type B and C in Bucharest municipality: 2001-2008].

Objective: Analysis of risk factors for achieving clinically overt hepatitis B and hepatitis C in the population of Bucharest municipality.

Methods: retrospective and descriptive study on hospital patients cohort. Cases - in the study have been enrolled all acute viral hepatitis B and C confirmed by the two infectious diseases university clinics of Bucharest municipality, during the time interval 2001-2008, among the residents of the municipality.
